The right of genocidal maniacs to bear arms

I have ambiguous feelings about the gun issue and am open to the argument that people should have the right to have guns. But I find the NRA positions to be little more than propaganda for the gun manufacturing lobby, with no connection to the concerns of the average American. As a case in point, a group of nations has recently called for a global treaty to limit the international gun trade. This makes sense: there are very good (and obvious) reasons why we should be trying to curb the flow of weapons to certain corners of the world. Yet the NRA is adamantly against the idea that anything might get in the way of weapons sales. How cynical can these people get?

But if you outlaw international gun trading, how can I get my hands on an autographed Kalashnikov from the former Soviet Union?

Can't we at least outlaw guns everywhere else? Why do we want other countries to have guns? (Although I guess it is a bit more manly to toss your enemy a gun before you shoot him.)

Although I don't own a gun, I believe everyone desrves the right to "keep and bear", especially these days (however cliche' that might sound).

And Blackwater? I think they're criminals one and all, although I don't expect anything to come of any of it considering they are His Majesty's contracted private army. The illegalities of this mad little tyrant are piling up by the day, yet our elected officials do nothing to stop him and his crew.

I dunno. Do bands of drugged up Liberian 12 and 13 year olds need the right to "bear arms"? I'm sure that the weapons manufacturers would assure us that Liberian freedom is at stake. Myself, I'm sure that most Liberians would rather keep their flesh and bone arms on their bodies have less of the manufactured arms entering their country.
